About Poi Passion
Poi Passion: School of poi and fire performance - established in 2000 by Kate Wright.
When travelling Kate trained in the art of poi spinning and the mental and physical flow that allows us to connect with our movement. Within three years Kate mastered the art of each poi move and moved on to study the connection between poi movement and martial arts/weapon performance. In 2003 Poi Passion put on it first performance in Brighton. Poi Passion vs. freestyle Kung Fu has continued to put on community and international shows and performances.
In 2003 Poi Passion established a training space for its school of poi and set up workshops in the foundation of poi training moving on to other difficulty levels and working closely with well known local poi teachers.
We have trained thousands of poi spinners now, some just for fun and others becoming professional, and also take pride in the fact many have gone on to teach others, helping with the infinite loop of learning poi and spreading the flow.
The team works closely focusing on each person's need and learning style, regardless of whether they are learning for play, team building, exercise or for professional work we all have the passion inside.
We just help people on their journey in the world of poi and fire performance showing them the ways to flow.
In 2005 Poi Passion became very popular in schools as learning poi promotes coordination and brain gym movement, helping children learn. Poi works the left and right side of the brain and has been proven to increase concentration levels in even the most distracted of children! We also touch upon the history of poi bringing the background element to their movement learning.
Also in 2005 Poi Passion worked with many well known agents, for details please see our diary page
Poi Passion developed into a fire dance school in 2007 whilst working with a troupe of 15 students to choreograph a movement piece for a community event. Since this we have trained in various different skills including Kung fu form, Tai Chi movement, Belly dancing and yoga. Also working with different fire equipment and combining the arts together with fire.
From 2008 Poi Passion School of Poi and Fire Performance has been on festival tour around the UK.
During 2008 Poi Passion helped set up a charity in Worthing providing circus skill and a training space to the local children details at www.circusseen.org and also worked closely with a new poi teacher at www.fairyparty.co.uk
2008 and 2009 Poi Passion School of Poi and Fire Performance was proud to be the headlining act at www.outoftheordinaryfestival.com
