Poi Passion is happy to say on the 26th and 29th of July 2010, world poi teacher Alien Jon is visiting Poi Passion School of Poi and Fire Performance. He's offering 4 workshops, listed below.

Alien Jon: poi teacher/workshop leader
Is known around the world as a playful, yet thorough, teacher of Flow Arts.
Equal parts Flow artist and Flow scientist, he loves innovative ideas and the creative spark.
His poi wizardry draws insiration from T'ai Ji, Aikido, dance, and other Flow Arts including contact staff & double staff, contact juggling, and flower sticks.

1st Day, 1st class: Monday 26th July 2010 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. limited space only
Poi-Fu: Foundation Body Mechanics & Forms for Poi
Experience Level: All
This workshop is indispensable for beginners and advanced spinners alike. Regardless of our current skill level, when playing at the edge of our technical ability, there is a tendency to plant our feet, lock up our body, and put all of our focus into what our hands are doing with the poi.
It gives you the forms and understanding you need to unlock your body and increase your freedom of movement, all wile keeping your planes clean.
Some things we'll explore in this class:
- "Jiggies"
- Footwork: your feet move your body, your body moves your poi.
- Spotting and "un-dizzification".
- Human anatomy: the axes of the body define our relationship with poi.
- 4 cardinal Focus Points.
- Turns use horizontal focus points: "catch the wave".
- Orientation analogies: keeping your bearings wile spinning poi.
- Walls, the corridor, and which way your poi wheels spin.
- Timings & Symmetries of spinning things: 4 fundamental Modes of poi & arms .
- How your body makes circles: Shoulders lift, torso twists.
- Moving your feet, arms, and poi together harmoniously
1st Day, 2nd class: Monday 26th July 2010 from 8:30pm - 10:00pm. limited space only
Poi Geometry: Building blocks for linear moves & flowers
Experience Level: Intermediate to Advance
Prepare to become a human spirograph!
This class is a different approach to learning linear moves, flowers, and poi geometry in general. If we are going to paint beautiful geometric pictures with poi, first we learn the brushstrokes.
Empowered by these techniques and new understanding, you will be able to more methodically approach flowers & linear moves wile keeping clean planes.
Some things we'll explore in this class:
- Loops and Arcs with a partner.
- Loops and Arcs with your poi.
- Ellipse pulses.
- Tracing geometry.
- Linear extensions.
- Line isolations & Pendulums.
- Flowers reconsidered.
- How linear moves relate to flowers.
2nd day, 1st class: Thursday 29th July 2010 from 6:30pm - 9:00pm. limited space only
Exploring Partner Timing & Tunnels
Experience Level: Intermediate to Advance
What is more fun than spinning poi by yourself? Spinning poi with a partner!
In this workshop, we will learn how align in the space between us, synchronizing different timings with our partner to make baeutiful patterns, and coreographies.
Come ready to collaborate with other classmates.
Some things we'll explore in this class:
- Making the distinction between personal timing and partner timing.
- Time Keeper & Time Fixer.
- Explore the 4 modes.
- Overlapping each other's space.
- Many arms of Shiva.
- Chain reactions.
- Overtake the leader's timing.
- Circle walking together.
2nd day, 2nd class: Thursday 29th July 2010 from 8:00pm - 9:30pm. limited space only
Interlocking Partner Poi: Sharing space with poi partners
Experience Level: Intermediate to Advance
What is more fun than spinning poi with a partner? Sharing interlocking poi moves with a partner!
In this workshop, we will learn how to share space and interlocking poi patterns with a partner.
Come ready to get a little tangled up with other classmates!
Some things we'll explore in this class:
- Being the initiator.
- Stalling in each other's space.
- Turning past each other.
- Brigzags.
- Sharing a 4-beat cross-stance weave.
- Sharing 3-beat weaves.
- Different partner stances.
- Folding between stances.
